About Us

Competent & Experienced… Established in 1887

Our company was founded during a time when area farmers did not have access to insurance protection. Fortunately they didn’t let that stop them. They banded together, forming a co-op of policyholders, each supporting the other - spreading replacement and repair costs amongst themselves during times of natural disaster and loss. Thus the Township Mutual was born, and to be more precise, Mid-State was well on its way towards being established.



Mid-State Mutual Insurance Company is not only the result of a farmer-based co-op, but also multiple mergers. The township mutuals, Iosco and Otisco originally merged, then some years later Sharon Mutual merged with them, forming what is now known as Mid-State Mutual Insurance Company based in Waseca, MN.



Today, with more than 132 years of successful history behind us, we are stronger than ever and hold true to our original principals of helping each other in times of need. We are still owned by our policyholders and maintain Annual Meetings in which all of them are invited to attend. Our growing history and spreading reputation for delivering industry-leading insurance protection has expanded our service area to include 20 counties.
